Do you choose the individual components
of the computer I contract with you to build?
That is totally up to each customer. Typically,
a custom-built computer is chosen due to the user wanting a PC that
is built with a particular purpose (i.e. video editing, Gaming,
etc.) in mind. Thus, each type of computer would be best built around
components that excel in their specific areas. You can choose the
components or I can make recommendations or somewhere in the middle
– that is totally up to you.
If I want you to recommend/choose the
components that go into building my computer, how will you choose?
I will choose based on three variables:
1) Your budget 2) What you want your computer to do 3) availability
of the specific brand/type of component.
Do you recommend any particular brands
of the individual components over another?
Like many consumer items, there are good
brands and bad brands … and everything in-between. I only
recommend brands for individual components that have proven track
records for reliability and high-performance. I will build a computer
with any components that the customer wants or chooses; however,
with computer components, many times inexpensive components equate
to cheap components.
Do you obtain the components or do I
buy them and then give them to you to build the computer?
If you prefer to obtain the components
and then provide them to me, that is fine. Or, I can buy the components
for you as long as pre-payment is provided for those components
before they are ordered.
Do you have an operating system (i.e.
Windows XP) and other software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Norton Antivirus)
that you can or will put on the computer for me to use?
No, new software will need to be purchased
and provided to me prior to completion of the computer. I do not
keep software in stock and do not offer any copies of software for
use or for sale.
What software, at a minimum, do I need
for you to build my computer completely?
A Windows Operating System such as Windows
XP is needed at a minimum for the computer to be ready to use. However,
if you prefer that I build the computer and not load an operating
system, that is your choice as well. In this scenario, you or someone
will need to format the hard drive and install an operating system
before the computer can be used.
Do you require a deposit prior to building
my computer? If so, why?
A deposit and/or pre-payment for the cost
of the components if BKC Technology obtains them is required.
How long does it take once I give you
the information you need to start building my computer?
Tough question to answer given the nature
of building a computer involves so many variables and every computer
being built will present its own unique challenges. A couple of
things that can delay the completion is receiving the components
that are being shipped as well as unforeseen problems when two or
more components have compatibility problems with one another. In
most instances, once the parts are obtained and work begins, you
are looking at 3 to 10 days.
What kind of warranty do you provide
for the computers you build?
I provide free phone and email support
for 30 days from the date the computer is completed/delivered. If
you experience a problem with the computer I can take a look at
it. Within the 30-day timeframe, if the problem occurred due in
part to something that BKC Technology failed to do or similar, there
will be no charge for labor. However, if the problem was not due
to BKC Technology, regular fees will be due for any work performed
to address the problem.
What do I do if I run into a problem
down the road with my computer? Can I contact you for help?
Yes, you may contact BKC Technology for
assistance in troubleshooting and repairing your computer. Regular
hourly rates will apply.
My old computer is having some problems;
do I need to bring my computer to you or can you come here to work
on it?
My preference and recommendation is to
work on the computer at BKC Technology. If I need to come pick up
the computer or if I will be working on the computer where it resides,
there will be a $25 service call fee in addition to the hourly rate.
If the computer is brought to BKC Technology for service, the $25
fee does not apply.
I have a Dell / HP / Compaq / Other
Brand of computer that IS under warranty that is having problems,
can you help me?
Yes, I can assist. However, if your computer
is still under the Mfr or extended warranty, my recommendation is
for you to contact the Mfr first to resolve the problem. Many times,
a call to technical support will resolve the problem after a few
minutes and there is no charge involved.
I have a Dell / HP / Compaq / Other
Brand of computer OUT OF warranty that is having problems, can you
help me?
Yes, I can assist. Regular hourly rates
will apply.
How long will it take you to fix my
computer problems?
I wish I could give you a quick and accurate
answer to this inquiry. However, every computer problem is different
and every computer is different. Depending upon the nature of the
problem, it could take 10 minutes or 2 weeks.
What kind of warranty do you provide
for the computers you service?
I provide free phone and email support
related to the initial problem(s) for 10 days from the date the
service is completed. If you experience the same or similar problem
with the computer after the service is completed, I can take a look
at it. Within the 10 day timeframe, if the problem was not resolved
by BKC Technology, there will be no charge for the additional labor
to resolve the problem. However, if the problem is unrelated to
the original reason for service performed, regular fees will be
due for any work performed.
Will you give me a discount if I let
you have my old component (i.e. video card, modem, etc.) when you
upgrade to a new one for me?
No, in nearly all instances, the part
being replaced will have no value to BKC Technology. Computer components
change often due to the technology evolving at such a high rate.
I need some help upgrading/fixing
my computer; can I watch and learn from you as you are doing the
work?
Most folks who work on computers will
tell you NO. However, BKC Technology encourages all individuals
to learn about their computers and how they work. If you are interested
in observing while your computer is being serviced, in most cases
we can work something out. Simply let me know about your desire
ahead of time so we can determine if it is feasible or not.
Can you guarantee me that my data will
not be lost or corrupt when you work on my computer problem?
Unfortunately, there is no guarantee,
depending on the type of problem, that your data will be 100% totally
safe. However, there have been very few instances where data has
been lost or corrupted beyond repair in my experience of working
on computers. Every precaution is taken by BKC Technology to ensure
that your data is preserved when service is performed.
